Flash Cards And Buzzers And Timers (oh my!)
I've been hinting a bit with photos on facebook, instagram and twitter. And I've mentioned in a few previous blog posts that we have something new and fun planned for our dancers when they return in the fall...
It's time to spill the beans! I have spent the entire summer creating dance-related "games": 600+ flash cards, 100+ dance trivia cards, dozens of facts about famous dancers, dance history, dance companies and more! It's been a huge undertaking. Literally, some days I woke up and while still in my pajamas, began working on this project. I'm super excited about all of the knowledge that these new games will bring to our dancers. I have a feeling our dancers will begin to crave learning more about every aspect of dance. "The more you know", right?
All of the classes in our Primary levels through our Premier levels will be digging deeper into their dance education with the introduction of our educational "games". Your dancer will be able to tell you more about these games once we've started classes, but here's a few details:
We will only spend the last 5-7 minutes of class on these games.
Everything we will do is educational - so although we may be laughing and maybe even getting a little loud, we'll still be learning.
The first 3 weeks of each month will be "Dancer's Choice"; a different dancer each week gets to choose the game.
The 4th week of the month will be "Teacher's Choice"; we'll choose a topic (examples: famous ballet dancer, or a brief history about tap dancing, etc) and share it with our dancers. We may even include a short, relavent video!
There's more to it than that, but you'll have to wait! You'll be amazed at how much your dancer is going to learn this year, both on the dance floor and in the "classroom" so to speak!
